Every device joined to the world Net is s et a unique c ombination of numbers called an Internet Protocol (IP) address. IP addresses a re four decimal numbers divided by dots which form four periods like 127.0.0.1. As these numbers are ordinarily put to internet service providers within a region , a block of IP addresse s can be used to discover a region or an area from which a h ost is connecting to the web. O ccasionally an IP can be used to indicate the user's general position.
Since the numbers may be boring to cope with, an IP could as well be assigned to a domain name, which is some of the times easier to remember. Hostname may be c hecked to find IP addresses, and contrariwise. At a time ISPs issued one IP address f or each h ost . Th ey are called static IPs. Because there's a fixed number of IPs and with the accumulat ion of the internet users ISPs now issue IPs in a dynamic way out of the r ange of IPs (Using DHCP). These are named as dynamic IPs. This bounds the ability of the user to host websites, ftp servers, e- mail servers, and so on. Also users connecting to the Net, with virtual hosting, one P C can act like multiple c omputers (with multiple domain names and IP addresses). Whenever you receive an electronic mail you can find the I P address of the h ost who sen ds this mail if the m an i sn't hiding his address w ith a proxy server. If someone uses an anon. proxy server then his true address will be substituted by the address of the proxy server. Many people cover their address behind a free proxy server and change data anonymously due to security reasons. Not every server lets you to hide your I P s o if you are hiding your address you won't be able to r each all the servers.
